Steve Kuspert, Rafik Hamaizia and Monique Mehra were all filmed talking about their work. Experts by Experience are people with experience of receiving health and social care services themselves. Their work is a valued and integral part of Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspections.
Monique talks about her role and being filmed for the new video "I’m very pleased with the final videos which are useful because the CQC inspectors are usually able bodied. I’m in a wheelchair and when I go around inspecting services I don’t think that other people who can walk can see the difficulties that I can. The people who use these services find it easier to talk to someone who is in their position."
"My specialist area is physical disabilities, but during my work as an Expert I’ve met other people with different needs. Going out to London to do the filming has built up my confidence. Before I started this job, I didn’t have the courage to travel but now I’m getting out there and doing what I want."
"It was nice on the filming day to meet David Behan, Chief Executive of CQC and talk to him. We usually meet him at formal board meetings. It was good to speak to him one to one and as a group of Experts. He was really listening to what we were saying."
"This is one of the best jobs in the world. I never thought I’d be able to do this flexibly, you can choose when you want to work. It benefits my life as well as others; even though I’ve got a disability I’m doing something useful. I work part time. Choice Support share the work between all the Experts and we work about once a week taking part in the CQC inspections."
"I was alright being filmed. These kinds of events help us with networking and meeting new people."
"Choice Support are a lovely organisation. They are always there to talk at the end of the phone and email me whenever I need them."
