Learning Disability England

Andrew, a Choice Support quality checker and his support worker Lorraine at LDE launch.

The Housing and Support Alliance (H&SA) and the self-advocacy group People First England (PFE) are merging to form Learning Disability England (LDE). The new organisation brings together self-advocates, families and organisations.

A transitional board will oversee the formation of LDE, with an interim staffing structure led by Alicia Wood (formerly H&SA) and Gary Bourlet (formerly PFE).

Gary Bourlet says:

“LDE is important because we want self-advocates to work closely with families, carers and organisations that work with people with learning disabilities, to come together and work together.

For far too long we have been working separately and our voices have not been strong enough on our own to make change.

To make change we need to work with others.”

Choice Support is a member of the H&SA (with our Managing Director Sarah Maguire sitting on the H&SA board), and helped fund the formation of People First England.
