Fighting fit and living well

Boxercise proved very popular at our latest Living Well Workshop which this time took place at the Life Centre in Sale, Greater Manchester.

People who attended learnt new skills, found out how to keep healthy and visibly gained in confidence during the day. Participants also generated lots of ideas and tips for each other on how to keep up a healthier lifestyle and make living well choices.

Thank you to staff at Life Centre for looking after us and special thanks go to the SJ Clark Trust whose generous grant made the whole day possible.

David who attended the event said “I’ve just had my height and weight test.  I’ve not had a cigar since June last year.  I’m supported 24 hours a day with the Lady Verdin Trust (LVT).  I’ve not touched a drink for 15 years.  My eldest brother died of cancer and we are just killing ourselves by the way we’re living. I really enjoyed it on the stage, doing the dancing and boxing.”

Thank you to all the people who made the event successful and donated their time. Including staff from Choice Support who ran the workshops for Jack and Josephine, living with diabetes, nail painting and Simona’s boxercise class.

  • Living Well Stockport April 2016 49Angela Christofidou ICHT, FHT Holistic Therapist said “I used to do care work and this workshop is a great opportunity for me.  I love being able to gain a positive reaction from people with massage who otherwise wouldn’t react.  People just love relaxing with me.  As soon as they see me coming they kick off their shoes.”
  • Lynne Hempstead from Healthy Stockport NHS and Pebble Enterprises said “We want to raise awareness about making lifestyle changes, taking blood pressure, measuring height and waist measurements.  More weight causes longer term problems.  We can offer a range of general well-being services, like support with shopping to help make healthy choices and lose weight.  You can speak to a well-being advisor and check out our tools on line.”
  • I wish I’d tried, Ross Mcguigan, from Life Leisure Stockport said “We’re here today to share information about health and well-being.  We want to form new partnerships and reach out to new groups of people. We’re the main leisure provider in Stockport improving and helping people have healthy lifestyles and making sure it’s accessible to all.”
  • Smoothie stars Cycle works said “Pedal powered smoothie goodness.”
