Beach Road, Hayling Island
Beach Road is an excellent move on home for people who have been in long-stay hospital and/or have been mentally unwell. We provide residents the comfort and security of a 24 hour staffed service, while promoting recovery, developing skills and encouraging the transition towards independence. The service has an open-door policy and is non-restrictive. Beach Road is rated “good” by CQC.
The current residents are all men aged between 30 to 65. All are fully mobile and have a diagnosed mental health condition, predominantly schizophrenia.

People living at Beach Rd are very sociable, friendly and approachable. There is a definite family feel to the service. Some of the residents have strong links within the community, including the local church and volunteering organisations. One is employed by Choice Support as the co-ordinator of our service user forum.
Some of the residents have forensic histories, and can be on a Community Treatment Order (CTO), under MAPPA status or on a MHA Section. Most currently receive additional support from external professionals such as CPNs, psychiatrists, dieticians, Assertive Outreach Teams and social supervisors.
Beach Rd is a converted Edwardian house, split on three floors, comprising of nine individual bedrooms with their own wash facilities. There is a large communal kitchen, with a separate utility room, dining room and ground floor lounge with TV, DVD player and stereo. There are two bathrooms complete with over bath showers; one downstairs accessible wet room and two separate toilets (all communal). Havant Housing Association maintains the property at Beach Rd as the landlord.
A small garden with a patio is at the rear with off-street parking for service users, visitors and staff.
All the rooms are average sized, fully furnished and have a sink. One of the ground floor rooms has a pull cord alarm to alert staff in the office and sleep in room.
The current residents have expressed no preference for the gender or age of a potential new housemate. We support people at Beach Rd with a wide range of needs, including social support, emotional support, personal hygiene, medication compliance, cooking and daily living skills. Any risks would be assessed on an individual basis and we would accept referrals from people under CTO, MAPPA and MHA Section.
Support is provided over a 24 hour period, 7 days a week, comprising of an overnight sleep-in presence, and a minimum of two support workers during the day. The team is well established, and presently all staff have worked at the service for over five years. All staff are qualified with Health & Social Care Diplomas (or equivalent) level two and above.
The home has strong links with the Community Mental Health Team based at the Parkway Centre and the local health centre where residents GP’s are based. There are long established relationships with the local mental health hospitals, psychiatric services and forensic services.
Beach Rd is situated on the corner of Beach Rd and Bacon Lane. The area is predominantly residential and very quiet. The service is located approximately 400 metres from the sea front and Hayling Island Funfair. There is a large local park and community centre behind the property. A variety of local shops are within walking distance, including a Tesco Express, Co-op and a Sainsbury’s and much more. There are plenty of independent shops within the area. Residents can walk to a number of nearby eateries including cafes, pub restaurants, Indian, Chinese, Tai and a traditional fish and chip shop. Hayling Island Health Centre (GP) is within walking distance, as well as several local pharmacies.
Three bus stops are near to Beach Rd, from which you can access both of the Island’s bus services. These run regularly throughout the day and end at Havant Bus Station. From Havant Bus Station, you can catch connecting buses to access the wider area, and is a two minute walk from the nearest train station (Havant).
The local taxi company on Hayling Island is Summerfield, C-cars and Hayling cars and they are all very reasonably priced.
