My Involvement Profile: a free new resource to support inclusive involvement

Created by Disabled people, Shaping Our Lives’ new tool aims to boost inclusion for people with accessibility needs.
My Involvement Profile will help people communicate their expertise, skills and access requirements to involvement organisers, in an accessible and easy-to-action way. It will help organisations make events and activities accessible and inclusive.
User-led Design
My Involvement Profile was designed by Disabled people to help combat the fatigue people with access needs may experience when having to repeat their requirements over and over again.
The Profile is based on Shaping Our Lives’ research which showed that deaf and Disabled people don’t always have their access requirements recorded or met.
It is hoped the Profile will help:
- Provide people with a personal information record, including their contact details.
- Serve as a record of individuals’ access and support requirements, whether that be large print, having information sent to in the post rather than via email, and any other reasonable adjustments.
- Record their involvement and experiences.
The Profile has been designed to be flexible in meeting peoples’ fluctuating needs. It can be updated and it can be used in instances where people can’t self-advocate in the moment, particularly where organisations have missed out information.
Shaping Our Lives hopes that the Profile will contribute to more positive experiences of engagement, and increase the possibility of its users’ participation in the future.

Led by Disabled people and service users, PEN member Shaping Our Lives is a not-for-profit, user-led organisation, led by Disabled people and service users. It was established over 20 years ago.
Their focus is around Inclusive Involvement; they work with people, especially those facing the biggest barriers, to build better, more inclusive services and support.
