Blue Monday
This year, January 15th marks ‘Blue Monday’. It can be a difficult day for many.
Due to a number of factors including: the cold weather snap, returning to work after the Christmas break, financial reasons and new year’s resolutions already slipping, the third Monday of January is considered to be ‘the most difficult day of the year’.
There is lots we can do for our own wellbeing to combat low mood on tough days, but often the simplest and most effective thing we can do, is talk to one another.
This year the Samaritans are trying to change the narrative of Blue Monday and are urging people to make it ‘Brew Monday’ instead. They suggest people seek out friends, family, work colleges, or just a friendly pair of ears, to have a chat over a brew.
Because really there is no one day that is more difficult than the other. We can all struggle at different times.
Choice Support run Time to Talk sessions throughout the year. We recently had a session on the theme of loneliness over Christmas. Staff members are encouraged to join the online meetings to have a chat or just listen.
