Home for Good
Choice Support is proud to have worked with the Care Quality Commission (CQC) on their important new report, Home for Good.
Home for Good celebrates eight examples of successful community support provided to people with complex needs. The report states: "Success depends on a concerted effort across multiple agencies working in partnership with the people supported and their families."
CQC discussed the report in a podcast featuring Alexis Quinn, Restraint Reduction Manager of the Restraint Reduction Network, and Debbie Ivanova CQC’s Deputy Chief Inspector for people with a learning disability and autistic people. In the podcast episode Debbie says: “This report shows that if you really focus on the individual and work together, then the right service can be designed for everyone. It does sound expensive, but it’s often cheaper than hospital care.”
Whilst there is no single model of care, the stories shared demonstrate a need for:
- Support that is bespoke and truly person-centred.
- Agencies to work in partnership.
- Appropriate housing.
- An understanding of ‘challenging behaviour’ as a sign of distress.
- Family involvement in all aspects of support planning.
