I'll be seeing you
CEO Sarah Maguire shares the words of Billie Holiday and remembers the loved ones we have lost during this pandemic.
We are dedicating the month of September to remember and celebrate the lives of those we have sadly lost during the pandemic. The beautiful words sung by Billie Holiday in her song I’ll be seeing you sum up the pain and sadness of loss and the resilience of those left behind:
I’ll be seeing you
In all the old familiar places
That this heart of mine embraces
All day and through
In that small cafe
The park across the way
The children’s carousel
The chestnut trees, the wishing well
I’ll be seeing you
In every lovely summer’s day
In everything that’s light and gay
I’ll always think of you that way
I’ll find you in the morning sun
And when the night is new
I’ll be looking at the moon
But I’ll be seeing you.
Our hope is that you will join us throughout September and hold your own personal celebrations locally to remember people we have supported, our colleagues, friends, and family. It is important that those who knew and loved each person plan their celebrations to make sure they reflect who they were, their beliefs and traditions.
You may want to arrange a memory walk, plant a tree, hold a tea party, share stories and food with music. Each celebration will be a unique reflection of the person we have lost.
On 29th September I will be hosting a day of celebration and remembrance at Choice Support. I hope this will include stories, photos, and videos of your local celebrations. We have a small team who can help you if needed to plan your event. September at Choice Support will be about remembering. As an unknown author said: ‘’When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure."
Hope to see you again soon.
