It's time to say thank you
During this extremely difficult year, volunteers have continued to offer their time and skills for the benefit of others. It’s time to say a big thank you for the huge contribution they make.
Before the pandemic, our volunteers would often support staff teams with the daily activities on the agenda. This could mean getting involved in cooking, crafting, going to the library or shopping. However, the lockdowns and other restrictions have seen our teams and volunteers get even more creative with their support.
Lesley, who has volunteered in our Peppercorn’s Day Service for a year, talks about how her role has changed: “After Covid took hold and people were no longer able to visit Peppercorns, I became the craft person. The team would record a live video of me making the crafts. People being supported could then interact online. We would have a theme each week and I would create an item for people to make based on that theme. We tried to share some interesting and fun facts while we crafted. I’ve learnt a lot myself. For example, I now know the order of the planets and how many moons they have (some of this has come in handy on a Zoom quiz).”
The Peppercorns team also recorded videos discussing healthy eating, sleeping well and enjoying the little things in life. Each video encouraged people to talk about their feelings.
Lesley says she has joined a wonderful group of staff and people we support who have made her feel very welcome and at home. “The staff work tirelessly in making the day as interesting and varied as possible. My thoughts on the group are nothing but complimentary”.
Denise, who has volunteered with Choice Support for seven years, also gets involved in crafts and other creative activities with the people we support. Denise tells us more about her role in this video clip.
Lesley and Denise, we thank you for being a huge part of the Peppercorn’s team.
A big thank you to everyone who volunteers with us. We appreciate all of you and your invaluable contribution to people supported by us.
