Unfair to Care 2024
Fair pay for support workers is a topic close to our hearts. Choice Support is proud to have been invited to the House of Commons for the launch of the Unfair to Care Report.
"Myself and Raghbir Ram were privileged to be invited to the House of Commons for the launch of the 2024 Unfair to Care Report.
We heard from three MPs, Oonagh Smyth from Skills for Care and the Chief of the National Care Forum, Vic Raynor. They each spoke of the skills and knowledge required to work in an increasingly complex and demanding care setting.
The report, introduced by Teresa Exelby, Chief Corporate Services and People Officer of Community Integrated Care, describes an independent assessment of frontline staff in care services, and proposes a fair wage, equitable to similar roles in health and social care.
Tauseef, an Expert by Experience, spoke about how important it is that staff are paid a fair wage and how his support worker has helped him to develop as a person, and to gain confidence to help people himself (pay it back).
It was heart warming to hear from the panel, that we are valued for what we contribute to the lives of the people we support."
