Work that matters
How do we continue to do what matters and keep reminding ourselves that we can each make a huge difference? Sarah's vlog this week acknowledges the challenges facing those working in social care.
The past six months have seen some of the most dramatic changes to the way that we live our lives. We think we’ve got things worked out and then something changes, meaning we’ve got to work it out all over again. All of this chopping and changing is really emotionally draining. It can leave us feeling tired, and at times afraid.
Our work to support people with learning disabilities, autism and mental ill health, and their families, goes on whatever chops and changes. Our support to people is important, it’s work that really matters on so many levels. In a vlog at the beginning of lockdown I spoke about The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse by Charlie Mackesy – a book about friendship. And the opening line says, “I’m so small” said the mole, “yes” said the boy, “but you make a huge difference.”
We’re unsure about the winter and autumn months to come, what will they bring in terms of our support to help people live in their lives as part of their communities. We’re tired and perhaps fearful. Our challenge is to work out how we continue to do the work that matters and perhaps keep reminding us that like the mole, we can each make a huge difference.
Have a good weekend. Bye.
