Manifesto for change
Chief Executive Officer, Sarah Maguire, explains why the Good Lives Manifesto is crucial in getting the voices of people with learning disabilities heard this general election.
The Good Lives Manifesto 2024 was put together by Learning Disability England (LDE) members, with contributions from more than 400 people and organisations.
The manifesto is calling on all candidates standing in the elections to pledge to six things, to make good lives possible for people with learning disabilities.
“There has never been a more important time for the voices of people with learning disabilities to be heard. The Good Lives Manifesto is the culmination of many voices, views and ideas that offer a vision of how things should be, and could be, if policy makers decide to make different choices,” Sarah said.
She added: “As co-chair of LDE I am constantly reminded about the importance of partnerships. This election is bigger than any single organisation or group. The experience of bringing together the collective voice of over 400 people to create this manifesto is amazing.
“The further commitment to work together to promote 16 member campaigns that focus on issues important to people with learning disabilities and their families is leaning into LDE’s belief that we are louder together.”
