By now, you must have realised that I do love a quote. So, not to disappoint, I have one or two for my last vlog of 2020.
“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.” This quote was taken from Charles Dickens’ book A Tale Of Two Cities, which is one of my youngest daughter’s favourite books and seems about right for how I feel about this year.
I want to look back at the best of times, and there were many, despite the challenges and sadness that we have all felt and continue to feel. Life in many ways felt simpler this year with a slower pace and a focus on what really matters. I’ve certainly upped my skills in quizzing and taken kazoo playing, in name that tune, to a whole new level. We’ve had festivals in the garden, and we’ve had picnics in PPE with my mum and although distanced, I’ve felt strangely more connected with family and friends.
Before I go, I wanted to thank you for allowing me to talk to you each week. It’s a privilege I appreciate, and one I don’t take for granted. As you look back on your year remember what the horse said to the boy in the wonderful book by Charlie Mackesy, The Boy, The Mole, The Fox And The Horse: “Always remember you matter. You’re important and you’re loved, and you bring to this world things that nobody else can.”
