Clinical Support Worker
About the role:
We are currently looking for Support Workers up to support a young gentleman with moderate learning disability, who is quadriplegic, cerebral palsy and physical disabilities alongside with a young lady with complex needs within their bespoke home in the Hammersmith area.
You will be trained to deliver clinical procedures to support the lady with her health needs including administration of medication, enteral feeding, oral and nasal suctioning, physio programs, postural management, monitoring vital signs and skin viability.
Both the young lady and gentleman are sociable, they enjoy accessing the community and love seeing their families, including 1 very loveable pet dogs who visits.
Both have profound multi learning disabilities and complex health needs, but this does not hold them back. The beautiful new bungalow is modern, light and fully accessible; both the lady and gentleman also have their own hydrotherapy pool, where staff will have training for both hydrotherapy programme’s. This environment is key to them living life to the full, but it does not stop there.
Both use a broad selection of communication technologies including eye gaze, head switch and innovative music applications, the successful candidates will be trained on all equipment. As well as the gentleman who can express his thoughts verbally with some assistance. He also employs communication aids, such as computer-based programs operated through a joystick. He prefers dictating his emails and messages into his phone, supported on a purpose made stand.
Training will be at the home and you will undergo competency training delivered by a clinical nurse led team and the home manager. You will be supported by the provisions Home Manager to ensure that a good quality, safe and effective service is delivered. The successful candidates will be trained on all equipment. This includes a power wheelchair, H- track ceiling hoist the application of hand splints and ankle foot orthoses.
Hours:
Full time up to 39 hours per week. We are also looking for bank workers to join our team.
When supporting the young lady, you will be required to work a 13 hour shift alongside another staff member. This is during the day and waking night.
If and when you are supporting the young gentleman you will be working 7am- approx 9:30/10am. You will also be required to support him to the day centre and collect at 3:30/4:30pm and return to service for the evening shift. You will be required to work sleep in shifts when supporting this gentleman.
Weekend shifts are required.
Location:
The service is located in Hammersmith, London. There is also one parking space available for care staff vehicles. If you are travelling by public transport, there are two local train stations at Stamford Brook and Goldhawk Road, as well as Acton Central overground. The service is also on the 94 and 237 bus routes.
About you:
An ideal candidate will have had some experience within the care setting and be able to work as part of a close team. Choice Support and the families are looking for individuals who are caring, show initiative and good communication skills, and who can be creative to provide a stimulating home environment. Additional requirements are flexibility with working hours, as the service is 24/7 offering long, short shifts, and sleep-in working opportunities.
