What is the Supported Living Improvement Coalition?
Launched in February 2022, the Supported Living Improvement Coalition addresses concerns about the quality and safety of care and support options for people with learning disabilities and autistic people in Supported Living.
The Coalition is made up of people who use services and their representatives, providers, commissioners, trade associations and other regulatory bodies, as well as Care Quality Commission (CQC) staff members. They work together to develop a consistent understanding of barriers to good supported living.
The Coalition meets monthly to discuss a number of key themes with stakeholders, which include: what good supported living looks like, citizenship and community, human rights and equality, ensuring choices are person-centred, partnership working to create a supportive system, and regulation.
Meetings including a story from a person with lived experience, breakout rooms, discussion on themes, and guest speakers
The Coalition is convened by CQC; however, it is not a CQC product - each member is equal and can influence, inform, and direct the group activity.
Smaller ‘learning and action’ sub-groups have been set up for areas which require a specific focus. The sub-groups are at an early stage of being established, and the Coalition is looking for providers who have expertise in a sub-group’s specific area of focus to get involved.
