Transforming Care: The Nest
We worked in partnership with Kent County Council (KCC) to develop The Nest as part of the NHS Transforming Care programme.
In 2017 we received a capital grant from the NHS to purchase a property in Ashford, Kent. In 2018 we completed works on the building, transforming it into a three bedroom property with en-suite facilities, a sensory room, staff office and sleepover room with facilities for multi-functional activities. The design is sympathetic and robust, creating a calm atmosphere for its residents. Each bedroom has been fitted with touch screen interactive screens, in addition to future proofing for the installation of future assistive technology.
We've integrated some high end features within the build, such as soft impact curved walls and under floor heating.
After the Nest was completed we have continued our involvement as the landlord of the property.
Support is managed and provided by Kent County Council (KCC) who offer a short stay intervention service for children and young people from ages 13 to 18. The maximum period of stay is up to 10 weeks. KCC staff are highly trained in using positive behavioural support to help these young people achieve a greater quality of life. KCC aim to avoid a young person entering a secured provision, or help them to leave such provision.
"This is our first development as part of the Transforming Care funding, which we will build on and encourage others to provide appropriate accommodation for those that challenge their environment." David Holt, Director of Housing and Development
