Sophie - a step up the ladder
Support staff and managers need the same qualities, and that's empathy and patience.
Sophie started as a support assistant before being promoted to become an assistant team leader. “My role has changed a bit, but I am still hands-on. I help to manage the staff team and connect people we support with the outside world.”
We expect our staff to work to the highest standards and provide the best possible support to people. “It’s very important for people to be as independent as they can be and assist them to make their own choices. Even if they cannot speak, people tell you in different ways.”
You’ve got to be patient to do this job and you’ve got to have empathy. Sophie
No two people are the same. “We make sure everyone is treated individually. So, for example, we would never expect everyone to all go to the same church.”
