Rocker Matthew sees legends Iron Maiden at first live gig
Matthew loves rock music. Going to live concerts has become an important part of his life, helping him build confidence while doing something he enjoys.
Two years ago, Matthew's team noticed that one of his favourite bands, Iron Maiden, was touring. When they talked together about what would help him feel comfortable at a concert, Matthew explained that being around lots of unfamiliar people could feel overwhelming.
Working alongside Matthew, the team arranged access to a private box through a generous box owner. It meant Matthew could enjoy his first live concert in a way that felt right for him.
In the weeks before the event, the team helped him prepare for the experience. They talked about what would happen on the day and even wore matching tour t-shirts to make the occasion feel special.
The concert was a huge success.
Matthew enjoyed seeing one of his favourite bands live, and the experience boosted his confidence. Before long, he was looking for more opportunities to see live music and went on to attend concerts by Sabaton, Bowling for Soup, Wheatus and many others.
One of his biggest achievements was choosing to attend Download Festival for two days. In the past, this might have felt out of reach, but his growing confidence helped him take on a new challenge.
Earlier this year, another favourite band, Evanescence, announced a tour. The nearest concert was in Birmingham. Unlike previous events, there was no private box available. Matthew would need to stay overnight and sit in the general seating area, both of which brought new challenges.
Lauren spent time exploring the options with Matthew and making sure he understood what the trip would involve. After thinking it through, he decided he wanted to go.
Together, they returned to the strategies that had worked well before. Matthew watched videos of the venue, looked at where his seats would be and talked through each stage of the visit. Two team members joined him at the concert, sitting either side of him to provide reassurance in a busy environment.
Thanks to careful planning, teamwork and Matthew's determination, he successfully attended the concert and achieved another personal goal.
Matthew has built strong relationships with several members of his team and often turns to them for encouragement when he is planning new experiences. They help him focus on the things he enjoys most, from the music and atmosphere to finding the perfect piece of merchandise.
Throughout every concert and festival, Matthew has been the person making the decisions. He chooses where he wants to go, what challenges he wants to take on and what goals he wants to work towards.
He says: “I like buying the T-shirts and hats. I prefer sitting in the private boxes, but I will sit in general seating again.”
On 14 September, he added another band to his growing list when he saw Spiritbox live. He is already talking with his team about future concerts and would love to see Megadeth next.
With every new event, Matthew is building confidence, creating memories and proving that his passion for live music can take him to exciting new places. Unlimited potential.
